October 2019 Presentations
On Tuesday evening the Southwell & District were treated to 2 excellent presentations. The first was from Lauren King Deputy District Commissioner Communications from the Scouts and the second was from Steve Shatwell, the Chief Executive the REACH which is a registered charity dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire.
The second briefing was from Steve Shatwell on Reach and explain exactly what the Reach Project was a registered charity dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire. They work with almost 250 people to enable each individual to lead a happier and healthier life in their own community.
Reach began as Southwell Care Project in 1999. Since then we have grown in scale and impact across the county, yet our roots remain firmly planted in the community. It started out as a small group of concerned parents of people with learning disabilities, we are now a registered charity providing approximately 2,600 hours of support each week across all services.
Over the last 20 years Reach has grown and they now have four centres – Reach Southwell, Reach Newark, Reach Mansfield, and the social enterprise Flower Pod based just outside Southwell. The centres offer courses, activities, projects and socials, aiming to enable our clients to learn new skills, make friends and live well. They have also recently opened our cafe in Balderton which offers a warm and friendly place to drop in for a coffee and a chat with friends.
Reach are committed to offering a very high quality of service which they are able to achieve thanks to the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of volunteers. The Southwell & District Lions Club recognise that most valuable work that Reach does supports them in many ways in their endeavours to raise much needed funding.
