Would you like to raise funds for your charity at Carols for Everyone?
Would you like Southwell Lions to help you raise funds for your charity or community group? We are looking for a beneficiary for our annual 'Carols for Everyone' family Christmas concert and sing-a-long in Southwell Minster on Saturday, 6th December. All you need to do is send us an email at [email protected], telling us about your organisation, what you do, what you'd like to use the funds raised for (such as new equipment or launch of a new service, rather than put it into day-to-day expenses), who will benefit and how you would market the event to your members and supporters. Closing date for applications is 13th September. We look forward to hearing from you!
Plucking ducks for charity
Great fun was had by all at the Southwell Garden Party on 8th June on the War Memorial Park. We teamed up with Brincliffe Ladies Hockey Club to raise funds via our annual Duck Pluck, so a big thank you to everyone who supported this great sports club by 'buying' a duck. The winning duck earned local mum Elizabeth a prize of £60.
Plucking a duck was not the only excitement on the day! Lots of people enjoyed playing a selection of traditional pub games, including shove ha'penny and bar skittles, and very energetic 'wellie wanging', all of which helped to add to the funds raised for the Hockey Club.
Spring quiz raises funds for good causes
A great night was had by all at the Lions' Spring Quiz in May at the Minster School. Quizzers were entertained with subjects including mathematical conundrums, answers with colours, current affairs, May events and Spot the Tourist Attraction! The Halam Hopefuls proved to be worthy winners, just ahead of second-placed Artifishul Intelgence. Our thanks go to our excellent quizmaster Ian Gillings, ably supported by Ian Edwards, to Nick Turner for once again running the bar and to everyone who came along to support our charity. The proceeds will go to good causes in and around Southwell over the coming months.
